Vista Forest Explorations

Hi everyone, I'm excited to share one of a few different vista explorations that I've been playing around with during my nights and weekends. Really trying to learn more about UE5's Procedural Content Generation tool (PCG), Gaea, procedural clouds, billboards, layered material systems, and more! Another goal with this test was to see how dense I could make the forest without killing performance. So far this is running at 60+ fps at 1920x1080 on a GTX 1080. There's a lot more I want to do to increase perf so I hope to follow up with more tests soon.

- Mountains and terrain created in Gaea
- Foliage purchased from the SpeedTree store and then altered
- Foliage in the scene was rendered via camera facing billboards and placed using PCG (billboard textures baked using SpeedTree and then I created custom geo to map everything to)
- Textures on the mountain and terrain are tiling Megascans (applied using a basic layered material system)
- Clouds are hand placed and tuned using one of Unreal Engine's volumetric cloud materials (big thanks to Ben Cloward and William Faucher for their fantastic tutorials)
- Fog cards made in Substance Designer and hand placed

Will try to post more of my exportations soon. Thanks for taking a look :)

Mountains created in Gaea and displaced in ZBrush. Terrain was also created in Gaea.

Had a lot of fun learning more about how to customize and hand place Unreal Engine's volumetric clouds! Big thanks to Ben Cloward and William Faucher for their fantastic tutorials on the subject.

Created a super basic PCG graph to define the water line and then spawn trees and bushes above it. Ferns are then spawned around the trees.
